Govt continuing discrimination against Madhes: Thakur

Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) Coordinator Mahantha Thakur has accused the government of continuing discrimination against the marginalised groups.
He said so while addressing a protest assembly organisedin Kalaiya of Bara district on Wednesday to express reservations over the new constitution. The party has been terming September 19, when the new constitution was promulgated, as a black day.
“The government has been discriminating against Madhesi, indigenous people, Muslims in their language, culture, identity and citizenship, among other issues,” he said, adding, “Some people of specific communities with their racist mindset have issued the constitution to suit their interest to rule the country. We will continue our struggle until the constitution is amended.”
He was of the opinion that the amendment of the constitution is essential as the government has been showing discriminatory behaviour to certain people on the basis of colour.
Thakur went on to accuse the government of violating all the agreements reached with the party.

“The government has violated the preamble of interim constitution, new constitution and political agreements,” he said. “The government has not handed over the victory certificate to elected lawmaker of Kailali Resham Chaudhary yet. We have raised the issue with Prime Minister and Home Minister, but in vain,” Thakur added.
He alleged that the identity-based federal states were not included in the constitution to impose colonial rule. “The government has been imposing authoritarianism with the power of a two-thirds majority.”
He warned that the Madhesi people could “explode” any time if their demand of constitution amendment is not addressed.
The party had also organised a demonstration in Kailali Sub-Metropolitan City expressing reservations over the constitution.
