Unidentified persons pour acid-like corrosive on 6-month-old baby in Achham

In what can be termed as a gruesome act of violence, unidentified persons poured corrosive, a chemical substance with effects equivalent to a strong acid, on a six-month-old baby while the infant’s parents were away doing chores, at Chisi in Turmakhand Rural Municipality-4 of Achham district on Tuesday morning.
The condition of the child is critical, informed doctors involved in the treatment.
“It was just five minutes when I left my son in the house. There was no one in the house,” said the child’s mother Devsara Byak, adding, “I was feeding a buffalo. I returned home after I heard the son crying. He was suffering a lot.”
She said that unidentified persons grabbed the opportunity to attack the child when his father had also gone to the field.
The infant was rushed to a health post near the house. Later the health post referred him to Kamalbazaar from where he was again referred to the District Hospital. The injured child was then referred to the Nepalgunj Medical College after his condition deteriorated, Dr Manoj Bista of the hospital said.
“We immediately referred him to another hospital after providing primary treatment,” DR Bista said, adding, “The treatment could be possible had there been advanced equipment and senior doctors.”
A police team from the District Police Office reached the incident site soon after they got the information, DSP Tek Bahadur Rawat said.
